What is “breakbulk” cargo? What is “project” cargo? How are these types of cargoes moved across oceans and land? Why do they often need special handling? What are these cargoes used for, who moves them, and how? The breakbulk sector is a specialized niche of global trade, smaller but far more complex than bulk and container shipping — and more interesting, if you ask the people who work in this niche of supply chain logistics. Students will learn the basics of the breakbulk and project cargo supply chain, from sourcing materials and manufacturing to industrial construction — and about the supply chain links needed to knit these activities together. Our instructor, Peter Jessup, is a supply chain consultant who spent many years working in the project cargo sector as a shipper/cargo owner.
