Taming the Data: Using Artificial Intelligence to Streamline Project Cargo Logistics

Friday, 21 April

1:30 pm - 2:00 pm (CST) / 21/apr/2023 06:30 pm - 21/apr/2023 07:00 pm
Technology providers in the shipping space are using artificial intelligence to hoover up and make sense of the cacophony of data that flow in daily to carrier and logistics service providers’ offices from sources such as pricing requests, sailing schedules, statements of facts, and other data streams. Capturing and organizing such data can help shippers, forwarders, and carriers better manage emails, day-to-day operations, port calls, fixtures, and demurrage risk, and generally make inefficient processes, both commercial and operational, faster and simpler. Global shipping is chronically behind when it comes to developing these types of capabilities, and they are even harder to find in the breakbulk and project cargo community, especially for smaller service providers that don't operate at a scale that allows for developing their own in-house capabilities. In this session, Eric Johnson, Journal of Commerce senior editor for technology, will discuss the promise and pitfalls of several tech platforms with the entrepreneurs developing new or building out existing capabilities in the breakbulk and project cargo shipping space.
