Amanda Coughlin is a Senior Chartering Broker for BBC Chartering USA and a 2008 Maritime Administration graduate of Texas A&M Galveston.

While she is currently located at the Houston desk, she has held positions with the headquarters in Germany and the Singapore office within BBC Chartering. Her main focus includes key account management and contributing her experience to a team of chartering professionals to facilitate cargo bookings and fleet coordination.

    Breakbulk Academy: Your Ship Has Come In — Vessel Chartering

    What kinds of ships move breakbulk and project cargo around the world? Who owns them, who operates them, and when and how do shippers move their cargo on them? Amanda Coughlin, an experienced chartering broker with global breakbulk carrier BBC Chartering, will introduce students to the basics of vessel chartering and pricing. Say you own a breakbulk ship: what do you need to know about the market to make a living? How do you determine a fair rate? How do you proceed with negotiations? Amanda will lead students through the key steps, teaching them how to give an accurate price indication for a ship and how to “offer firm.” She also will discuss a few of the factors, such as regulations, that affect the shipping market.
