    General Session

Ro-Ro Shipping: The High and the Heavy

As with other breakbulk sectors, some shippers are "unboxing" cargo normally shipped in containers and shifting it to roll-on, roll-off carriers, adding further firepower to an already-recovering shipping sector as vehicle and high-and-heavy sales recuperate from the pandemic-induced slowdown. However, any COVID-19 setbacks and the microchip shortages slowing vehicle and equipment manufacturing — a knock-on effect of the pandemic — could stymie a recovery. During this session, ro-ro shippers and carriers will discuss the major challenges and pain points this segment faces as the late-COVID market takes shape.
