Few in shipping would disagree that in remaking itself as a global integrator in container logistics Maersk is attempting the most far-reaching transformation ever attempted by a traditional ocean carrier. In a string of acquisitions ranging from customs brokers to distribution centers and e-commerce logistics startups, it is leaving far in its wake its roots in traditional container shipping and its association with commodity services and rate volatility. It is doing this as it leads the industry in decarbonization, committing to an aggressive schedule to become zero-carbon throughout its operations and ordering the first zero-carbon deep-draft container vessels. In the center of this transformation is Vincent Clerc, Maersk's CEO for ocean and logistics.
