Why Relationships Matter More Than Ever: A Shipper Case Study

Wednesday, 2 March

11:45 am - 12:30 pm (PST) / 02/mar/2022 07:45 pm - 02/mar/2022 08:30 pm
Two years into historic pandemic-related disruption, one of the major lessons for many shippers is just how important strong relationships with their supply chain partners can be. For some, a strong relationship can literally make the difference between supply chain success and failure can be. For footwear manufacturer Wolverine Worldwide, it quickly became clear when supply chains clogged that it had to close ranks with its retailers on one end and with its largest transportation and logistics partner on the other. How? By getting orders earlier from retailers to its Asian suppliers, Wolverine has been able to keep its transportation costs in relative check. “Getting these orders in earlier is allowing us to work with the retailers on new expedited ways to get goods to them, whether it be what we call the fast boat, whether it be the door to dock where we're shipping it right to them,” Wolverine Worldwide president Brendan Hoffman told last August. That, in turn, allowed Wolverine to give more accurate forecasts to its carriers about what, when, and from where it would be shipping its product. As TPM22 — and its overall theme, “Relationships Matter” — winds down, this case study will feature Wolverine Worldwide discussing how its foundational relationships helped to sustain it through the disruptive chaos of the past 18 months.
