Andre Simha

Global Digital & Information Officer

Born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland, Andre joined MSC, a global leader in transportation and logistics, in 1987. He is responsible for implementing and developing the complex data flow between the company’s headquarters and its agencies worldwide. Andre oversees over 1,000 staff globally, providing interactive software solutions for MSC, as well as steering MSC’s broader activities related to technology, innovation, and digitalization. He is an advocate for collaboration and standardization in the shipping industry in areas of technology such as smart containers, where shippers of cargo benefit from a degree of harmonization among carriers and other actors in the supply chain. Andre is also the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA.org).

MSC, founded in 1970 by Gianluigi Aponte, operates 493 offices across 155 countries with over 70,000 employees.

    COVID-19 as Accelerator of Digital Development in Shipping
    The liner shipping industry has suffered from a chronic lack of digitization and standardization, but headway is being made on a number of fronts stemming from historic coordination between carriers designed to make core processes easier for shippers, 3PLs, and software providers to manage. The COVID-19 pandemic acted as a catalyst for this development, forcing logistics teams and service providers to operate in a decentralized way, and shining a light on where out-of-date foundations no longer work. In this session, Andre Simha, global chief digital & information officer at Mediterranean Shipping Co. and chairman of the Digital Container Shipping Association, will discuss progress on a number of fronts intended to unify digitization across the industry, including electronic bills of lading, smart containers, and other technology initiatives MSC is undertaking.
