Katrine Hilmen heads up the front-end engineering and subsea technology studies at ABB Energy Offshore Center of Excellence in Oslo, Norway. Subsea are going deeper and longer distances. New fields and satellite fields are area-developed as tie-ins to central processing, low manned FPSOs or field centers with a high level of automation, electrification and minimum maintenance. Hilmen joined ABB in 2001 and has taken a central part in the pioneering age of digital oilfields and its adaptation to good practice. She started her career working with flow assurance and enhanced oil production, enabling profitability of mature fields in tail production, while oil price was low and digital IOR solutions was at its emerge. She has held positions in Engineering, Project and Product management, R&D and Sales. Hilmen holds a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Process Systems Control from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. She was awarded MIT top young innovator in 2005 and has an U.S.-Norway Fulbright exchange to University of Massachusetts on her merit list.
