    TPM Academy: Demystifying Drayage

Drayage is arguably the most complicated segment of the international supply chain. The transition from international to domestic or vice versa for exports, drayage is a bubbling cauldron of complexity where everything from base rates to accessorial, chassis, fuel, detention and demurrage, accounting and billing converge to test the fortitude of the most hardened logistician. The Federal Maritime Commission’s final rule on detention and demurrage, which took effect in May 2024, only complicates matters further by, in the majority of cases, not allowing the trucker to be billed for D&D by an ocean carrier or marine terminal operator. This TPM Academy session will provide a frame of reference for understanding and approaching the unavoidable drayage segment to minimize cost and aggravation, while maximizing efficiencies.
