Anthony (Tony) Darnell

Lippert Components

Shipping Manager

Tony comes with over 28 years of experience in transportation, ranging from being an owner/operator to a leader of people. Growing up with a father as a truck driver and earning an allowance by detailing his Kenworth, Tony learned to drive a stick shift on a 10-speed transmission. Life changes called for a quick transition into taking over the family’s transportation business where he ran as an owner/operator. While a commercial driver, Tony earned his bachelor’s degree and took over a company’s shipping department, learning leadership lessons the hard way.

Fast forward, Tony stands before you now with experience in many types of equipment and multiple years running Shipping teams at two of the largest players in the recreational vehicle industry.

With a focus on cultural improvement and building strong successful teams, Tony currently contributes to Lippert’s “Business as a Force for Good” by volunteering at various charities and coaching youth sports. When he’s not involved at work, Tony is the Executive Director of a non-profit, Northern Indiana Transportation Club and co-founder of a podcast “#HandleIt: Hot Minute”.

    Inland Academy: Vetting Freight Brokerages

Shippers are being bombarded with requests from freight brokers looking for loads, whether by phone or by e-mail. How can logistics managers best vet those prospective brokers? What procedures should they follow before tendering a load to a new broker, and how should they manage relationships with brokers they bring on board? When is a broker really asset-based, and does that matter to the shipper? These are among the questions this Inland Academy session will answer.
