Inland Academy: NMFC 101 - LTL Freight Classification is Changing in 2025

The National Motor Freight Classification is a critical standard in less-than-truckload transportation, used to help determine base rates for shipping thousands of products. But the NMFC also is complex and, to many, somewhat arcane. The National Motor Freight Traffic Association is putting the NMFC through a serious makeover, looking for ways to simplify its classifications and how they are used, increasing the value of the NMFC to LTL carriers, shippers, and logistics providers. This Inland Academy session will analyze:

    • Why freight classification is needed in 21st century LTL shipping

    • The overarching simplification of the NMFC

    • The development of new online tools and training for freight classing

    • The views of LTL carriers, shippers, and logistics providers on classification
