Elizabeth Wetzel has been a leader in the Breakbulk and Project cargo industry for over 40 years. Ms. Wetzel was with Lykes Bros. Steamship Co., for 14 years, serving as VP and Treasurer, the first woman officer in the company. At the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and at University of Houston, she taught logistics and supply chain topics, as well as the comprehensive business of shipping. From there she was a Content Producer with the Journal of Commerce Breakbulk Events and Media. as an active liaison for events in the shipper community. Later she continued with Hyve, a British event company who acquired the Breakbulk Event Group. She now supports the breakbulk industry as a freelance content producer. With a focus on education, matching students and newer industry workers with experienced operators, the sessions Ms. Wetzel creates enable insights into the business of the shipping industry.

Ms. Wetzel received her Bachelor of Arts and MBA degrees from Tulane University.

    Breakbulk Academy I: Interactive Project Cargo Case Study — Managing a Heavy-Lift Shipment from Design to Delivery

    This two-session, interactive case study will follow the process for movement of an out-of-gauge/heavy-lift pressure vessel beginning with its design for shipment from a fabrication yard in India to its delivery to a construction site in southern Louisiana. An experienced team of subject matter experts will guide attendees through the critical steps involving logistics’ engagement in designing, procuring, and moving such a piece of project cargo. During each session, there will be a point at which attendees will work together to propose a solution when an unplanned and uncontrollable disruption forces a sudden change of plans. Session one will focus on design discussions, procurement collaboration, contracting with logistics service providers, and shipment planning.
